Outside The Box Art Auction

Added on by Adrian and Shane.

The ‘Outside The Box’ art auction in aid of the Scoop Foundation takes place at the RHA Gallery in Dublin on Tuesday March 28th.

Outside The Box is SCOOP’s latest art-driven fundraiser which will feature a live art auction in person and online featuring artworks from 120 of Ireland’s top street and contemporary artists.

Moving on from the pilot in November 2022 which featured 30 craft pizza box canvases, this year we’re adding a whole new range of quirky pieces. From painted skateboards, Sketcher sneakers, chairs, a vase, a tablecloth, photography, a tapestry and mirrors, there’s something for everyone.

Funds raised from Outside The Box will support the development and delivery of SCOOP’s specialised programmes that empower displaced and marginalised young people to fulfil their potential in Ireland and abroad, these include SCOOP Art, SCOOP Ed, SCOOP Kitchen, SCOOP Recruit and SCOOP’s emergency relief services.

Twenty Five Years Making Art Together

Added on by Adrian and Shane.

Exactly twenty-five years ago, Shane was studying at the Glasgow School Of Art and I was living in Ireland when we met. On a cold Valentines weekend, I flew to Glasgow to visit him and we got VERY drunk on vodka and began painting. We didn’t discuss what we were doing, we just raised the volume on the stereo and did it. Over that weekend we made 10 artworks (painting, drawing, collage) in a pad. Those works have never been exhibited, in fact very few people have seen them at all. This was the beginning of our collaboration. We never planned on becoming an art duo, it just kind of happened.

17 Ways To A Better You - [Exhibition]

Added on by Adrian+Shane.

Opening at 3pm on Saturday 26th November at the Droichead Arts Centre, 17 WAYS TO A BETTER YOU, the new exhibition from Adrian+Shane can be seen until 4th March 2023.

"17 Ways To A Better You" explores the impact of self-help books, click bait quick fix articles, being bombarded with advertisements and unattainable images particularly on social media promising a better life if we obey their message. The work is largely compiled of imagery from adverts from the 1950's to the present day, in a freshly fucked-up, pop art and contemporary style.

For years we have had a fascination with self-help books, gurus, enlightenment and more recently podcasts and what they promise. An obsession with trying to find happiness, build a better life and be the best us we can be. So “17 Ways" is a look into a world of promises and relief from life and yourself.

We explore this through the imagery of advertisement and social media because there is a connection with people's perceived and aspirational happiness in the 1950s before the onset of mass advertisement.

What we are being sold as something that will make you happier is actually making people more unsatisfied with their lives. We now have an abundance of self-help and quick fix lists to help you out of it.

"17 Ways To A Better You" is the first Adrian+Shane exhibition in Ireland in over a decade.

Stockwell Street,

Rare Postcard Archive Available To Buy For The First Time

Added on by Adrian+Shane.

Over the last few years we’ve been making postcards which we donate to an annual charity auction. Whenever we make the postcards, we make a few extras each time. Usually only 2 or 3 replicas of each postcard. They have been stored away in our archive and have never been available to purchase before. That is, until now.

Some of the postcards are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. They are little, precious, rare artworks. There won’t be anymore of these made. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

All of the postcards are screen printed on 300gsm Munken paper. Some of them are hand finished with acrylic paint.

Each postcard is signed on the back and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

They will be available to buy in our online shop from 1:00PM (GMT) on Friday 21st January 2022.

Incognito 2018

Added on by Adrian and Shane.
We are delighted to announce that we're part of the ‘Incognito’ exhibition, Jack & Jill’s 2018 Public Art Project.

Over 1000 Irish and International artists have joined this initiative to paint, draw, photograph, etch, sew or create something on a postcard (150mm x 100mm), which will form the largest group exhibition held in Ireland this year. It will include work by Tracey Emin, John Kelly, Peter Curling, Martin Gale, Olivia Golden, P.J. Crook, Ed Miliano, Abigail O’Brien, and Richard Gorman – but all pieces are exhibited anonymously, and sold for €50 each to the first buyer present in person at the Solomon Gallery after 10am on Friday 6th April.

In 2017, this event raised €81,000 for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation – but this year we undertake to solve the dilemma of the queue going all the way round the block on the sale days, by having two viewing days before the artworks go on sale.

4th - 8th APRIL – SOLOMON GALLERY, DUBLIN

Sole Of The City

Added on by Adrian and Shane.
We were commissioned by Dr Martens to create this painting specifically for their new Dublin store.

The painting titled ‘Sole Of The City’, is now on permanent exhibition at the Dr Martens store on Duke Street, Dublin 2.

"The idea behind 'Sole Of The City' is that the sole of the boot is the map of the city. The classic imprint of the Dr Marten boot rising to become buildings and city streets. Depicting iconic Dublin landmarks, including the Poolbeg Chimneys, Liberty Hall, the Spire, Molly Malone and the Ha'penny Bridge, rising from the sole."

This time lapse video shows how the painting was created:
